MENO - butoh performance

This is a video that I made in 2012 with the help of 6 dancers - the Beings - with whom I tried to create a primordial world. A pre-human world where Beings made out of flesh and chaos begin to see, hear, touch, feel their shape, their breathe, their heart beat.
Beings that grow out of plants, beings that grow out of ruins and forgotten knowledge. That is why we filmed in an abandoned and burned old factory.
It was amazing to find nature inside a building, nature that grows in its own language, in its mistery as the Beings do too.

strange new letters

While the modern dance and ballet use the already existing alphabet characters to compose a new sequence of movement, Hijikata created utterly new letters first, and composed a sequence of movement by using those "strange" new letters. - Toshi Kasai
